The admission process has been designed in a manner to facilitate the decision making process and familiarise the elderly with our homes. It includes all the steps from viewing of home to finalising transition details to paperwork, whether the elderly or the family members are local or outstation, be it from any other city or state or country.

We reached out to the Epoch team last year when my mom was not keeping well in the US having been in the hospital a few times and then trying to recover in the rehab after a pelvic fracture. Given her delicate health condition, we decided to move her to India and took the long flight with her from Washington DC to Delhi during the peak of the first covid wave in Delhi. The entire Epoch team was constantly in touch from the very beginning by showing us a virtual tour of the facility room to help finalize the care contract coordinating every step of the entire move. After landing we were picked from the airport and moved to a neighboring hotel that included 24/7 attendants for my mom to help her transition into the new environment. We were welcomed with multiple check-ins by various staff (using PPE kits) to customize her diet and other needs that made us feel really comfortable and at ease. The facility was very clean too and it was wonderful to see the team so receptive and responsive to every little request. Having been the main caregiver in the US, it was very relieving to get this support and after a week she was tested and moved to the main facility. Very thankful to the entire team who made this so seamless and smooth despite the stressful Covid situation!

We were extremely worried about the actual exercise of moving our mother to Epoch. Esp, since she was not aware of the fact that she was being moved due to her diminished comprehension and memory. The epoch team completely exceeded our expectations here. They had thought through and planned for the smallest things that would make the transition as smooth as possible. Details we would have never thought of (or considered). From setting up the room, right down to paying attention to the ensuring familiar smells, we were instantly comfortable and knew she was in good hands. The following 6 weeks reconfirmed all that and she has settled in beautifully to her new home and loves it there. She has got a new life, thanks to the fantastic team at Epoch.

Our move-in experience at Epoch (an assisted living and Dementia care centre) in Gurugram was indeed very smooth and hassle free. Since it was Covid times, strict protocols were in place. After following all the norms we were allowed access inside the facility. A few interactive sessions were in place to help us clarify all our doubts till the time we were satisfied. Before taking the final call my sister (chronic schizophrenia) was given permission to see her room, have a round of the facility on a wheelchair and also interact with the nurses and staff members inside the facility. This happened a couple of times. To make the patient more comfortable and familiar to the surroundings(she would be moving in) she was even served meals of her choice. This further increased my liking for the place. Thus there is a sense of deep trust.

The Covid move-in experience

From the past nearly to more than two years, our lives have taken a complete turn and things are at standstill. These times have been extremely challenging for everyone across the globe especially for the Healthcare sector. The Healthcare sector is facing extreme challenges for the world is at a standstill for about 1 and a half years.

I am Aditi and I take care of admissions and customer relations for Epoch. I basically act as a liaison between the Client and Epoch starting from the first call till the time the elderly stays with us.

During these unprecedented times, we know how difficult it is for family members to remotely monitor their parents and we felt the urge to help people who were approaching us for any kind of service.

At Epoch, for any admissions we do, there is a lot of thought process and weeks of planning that goes into it. Every individual has different needs and set of requirements, and we try to make the transition as comfortable as possible for them. Facilitated Isolation rooms with customized décor and nutritional meals are provided in accordance with the Covid protocols.

Even during these Covid times, we did admissions from California, Gurugram, Delhi, and Washington DC.

Covid has created physical barriers between our residents and their families, but we try to maintain as much virtual connection as possible. All our teams know the importance of their roles and take those sincerely. There’s always someone or the other to pamper your loved ones.

This is the new normal of the Covid world for us and I believe for others as well. We are constantly learning new things every day and are constantly striving to make it better for the new families approaching us. We have to be extra vigilant about our staff and residents and are conducting regular testing for all. Just want to ensure that we don’t leave any loose ends. These are certainly challenging times, but we are all geared up for it.
